They give a giant crap about how many are still playing Diablo3 and more importantly, how many are using the RM AH, that thing was supposed to be a license to print money for them.
If the majority feels like me and have stopped playing because the game is plain bad, then there should be a couple of alarms ringing in Blizzard HQ.

I doubt it. In the world of virtualisation, Blizzard are probably just as happy for the servers to be quiet. They still took the money for the sale of the game. Their only running costs are the servers and support contract. Fewer users, less CPU / Bandwidth / Licences required on any managed hardware = cheaper. And I bet the only thing that is being used is the RMAH then they will still be raking in the cash.

The game is terribad. Just the idea of random farming depresses the shit out of me. I heard somewhere you are more likely to win the lottery than self-gear for BIS. That my friend, is fucked up. That my friend is why the new the RMAH would be $$$win$$$ for them. That my friend is why they don't give a crap about sorting out the farm. They want it so they can tempt you with the loot on the RMAH.

And whose to say that all loot on the RMAH is player loot and that some is not "planted" by failzard using sleeper accounts when the RMAH gets quiet? Money is down this month, let's introduct a new item on the RMAH with another +1% improvement on the last BIS. Go go.

I don't understand your argument, no company has ever gone "well we made a bunch of money, might as well stop trying to make more"
More users of the RM AH means more money for Blizzard through AH fees, if playing accounts takes a nosedive, so does the income from AH fees(assuming ppl who pays real money for items, are at the same % of the quitters as the stayers)
I personally wouldnt like to be a developer who was told that because of me, profits have dropped 50%(guess) over a couple of months.

Sorry Panzer, was my post TLDR?

Let me bullet point:

1) Virtualisation: you only pay for the CPU / Bandwidth / Licensing that gets used.
2) I think the only thing being used in the game is the RMAH.
3) The game is terribad.
4) Failzard introduce new better gear to RMAH whenever they need more money.

If that's still TLDR.

1) Diablo 3 Sucks and Failzard suck (since getting pwnd by Activision).

Why do you feel a need to belittle me and reply with nothing but memes and catchphrases, got nothing better to do and some pent-up frustrations?

Bah. C'mon panzer, this is the internetz isn't it?

Anyway, my point is that they don't care how many users are playing the game, only how many users are playing the RMAH. You said it yourself:
I personally wouldnt like to be a developer who was told that because of me, profits have dropped 50%(guess) over a couple of months.
You said "profits have dropped" not user base.

When a farm game is such a grind that it's just not possible to farm BIS at a reasonable or progressive rate, the game forces you to either A: stop playing, B: farm gold to buy gear on the AH or C: go to the RMAH and buy stuff (as this is where all the BIS gear ends up, not the AH).

I rapidly progressed (for a casual player) to Inferno and can now roflstomp through Act 1. However, I cannot progress in Act 2 at all. I've tried different builds, gear, all sorts and still can't make reasonable progress for the level of effort. I've stopped playing because I will not spend hard earned cash on BIS gear.

And
got nothing better to do and some pent-up frustrations?
... I am very frustrated with the game. When I paid my hard earned cash to buy it, I didn't realise it would be so pay-2-win.

Diablo3 was supposed to be a game that people bored with end of content wow could play until MoP, they also trialed a few new ideas that you'll probably see in one for or another during MoP. Bliz will most likely be very anxious at the moment as they now have no-one playing Diablo and a few games on the market due out that could potentially rob subscribers - like GW2 FREE TO PLAY
